Update - The Belgian Competition Authority accepts price index commitments of trade federation
On 30 January 2025, the BCA accepted commitments from Belgapom (the Belgian trade federation of potato processors and traders) regarding its weekly Belgapom quotation, which is a price index for purchase prices for certain potato varieties.
The BCA was concerned that the weekly publication of the quotation could lead to collusion on the purchase prices. To avoid this, Belgapom committed itself to setting up a digital platform capable of collecting and processing member data anonymously and also to enhance the aggregated nature of the pricing information.
Price indexes are relevant for many trade associations, so we will be reporting more as soon as the commitment decision has been published.
