🌍 Yesterday, Laura Sente and Michèle de Clerck attended the 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 marking the 1st anniversary of Belgium's Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) regime, hosted by FOD Economie / SPF Economie / FPS Economy.

📊 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 (1 July 2023 - 30 June 2024):

• 68 FDI filings were submitted. Of these, 53 have already been approved, and none have been prohibited. The remaining filings are still under review.
• 1 ex officio procedure was initiated and closed without further information.
• Only 7% of the filings (5 in total) entered a phase 2 review.
• 43.4% of foreign investors came from the U.S., while Chinese investors accounted for less than 3%.
• The top 3 investment sectors were data, healthcare, and digital infrastructure.
• Flemish investments made up the majority of investments.

🔍 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝, the Interfederal Screening Commission (ISC) indicated that it intends to improve the notification process and IT tools. For example, a recent upgrade now allows multiple representatives from the same investor to access the filing application simultaneously, making the process more efficient.
