Legislative developments in the retail and agri-food sectors
The Belgian regulatory landscape continues to evolve, bringing a number of legislative developments that impact particularly retail, including:
• a mandatory ๐จ๐ง๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ๐๐ฐ๐๐ฅ ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง for distance sales via online interfaces;
• stricter rules on ๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐ง ๐๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ฆ๐ฌ and new rules relating to
๐ฉ๐ซ๐-๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ ๐ข๐ง๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง; and
• more flexibility regarding ๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฉ ๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ in the future.

In addition, at EU level, the Council has adopted a proposal aimed at strengthening the position of farmers in the food supply chain. Among other measures, the proposal strengthens the protection of the term “meat” in food names by reserving it for animal-based products.
